Also: "what do you mean you can do whatever you want on your area? Mow your lawn now!!!"

@correctionguy7632 why do you care about whiteness so much? I am from Saint Petersburg and I can say no, it is not 100% "white". We even don't view people by such made up criteria based only on appearance, but by actual ethnicity and culture. Being obsessed with skin colour is primitive and has nothing to do with real culture/ethnic division

@karenwang313 imagine believing Europe is irrelevant in everything that matters. 🤦 If not for Europe USA would not exist.

@gottalovesaurav Idk, I am from Russia, I guess it is not a developed country either, and I wouldn't want to live in an American-style suburb. I see a point in R1, but if it is a place near the nature, like woods or big park, not if it surrounded by other houses and boring lawns on all sides

Hello, I am from Saint Petersburg too, I agree it has good infrastructure and public transport in central areas and historical neighborhoods. I only don't like places where they build excessive amount of very high apartment buildings, because there the amount of infrastructure is clearly not enough for so many people.
4
What about missing middle? Many people would live in a 4-storey apartment building in an apartment, if such buildings existed. But if the choice is either suburban house or apartment in a giant tower, in which prices are also very high, then they choose a house

@cristianion2056 funny cause many youtubers got rich by playing games all day while many essential workers live on minimum wage

Some people may be intimidated to live in an area, where absolute majority of people are of the same race, which is not their own. Makes sense, cause very homogenous communities don't foster tolerance and understanding of outsiders. But then, of course they should have excluded any place with 95% of population of the same race, no matter what race it is
3
Actually as someone from Russia I may say only very few cities are built only with commieblocks, and even those usually have single family homes on the outskirts
2
@dinil5566 in most countries 25 k population is not considered a village dude
2
@HELLO7657 because of racial stereotypes and long history of segregation and inequality. Fun fact: your nickname is wrong too. "Race" or skin colour isn't a "tribe". The actual ethnicity is very different from skin colour. Most "races" have thousands of ethnic groups within them, and "statistically" as you say, all throughout history most conflicts happened between groups which look the same and are genetically very similar.

I am from Russia, I would be ok to live far from a city centre if that place still has public transport and is close to woodland/lake/river. If I am going to live far from work, I am only willing to do that to be close to nature. Living far from work and in the boring suburb packed with houses with no nature or green areas (lawns are not real plants, fight me!) seems strange to me

My parents live in an apartment in our town but we have a summer house with a garden 20 minutes from their apartment. And the garden is rather large, and we can do whatever we want there (as long as we don't create a fire hazard by building too much) - grow berries, veggies, flowers, lawns, whatever. That is actually how it should be

With public transport

My school was 5 minutes away, I am from small town in Russia. I always was shocked that some of my classmates lived "so far", that they had to take the bus and ride in it for 10 minutes to get to school. Now I live in Saint Petersburg and my perception of distance changed a lot
2
Yup, I also plan to live alone when I get out of dormitory, I just want a studio flat, it would be easy to clean. I want to live in our summer house only after I retire, because then I will have plenty of free time. Hope I will be able to build a normal house there by that time, because current one is terrible and unliveable most of the year
2
It is not about who likes it, more about why cities cannot consist of only single-family houses and nothing else

Better to have your own huge fence. After all, if someone is afraid of strangers, how can they be sure their neighbours are all nice and ideal?

@colorfulcodes wealthy are the thieves. They make money by taking away surplus value created by their employees. Wealthy in the capitalist system - are thieves

I lived in the town with 80 k people before I was 16, and I thought it had too many people, I always wanted to go to summer house and walk in the woods. I am from Russia, Karelian Isthmus
1
Or where you don't have to interact with them
1
We have a summer house (though post-Soviet cheap one), and I wouldn't want to live like that all the time while I am still working. When I retire - for sure, but as long as I have to work, it is better to live in a small apartment, close to work and also it wouldn't require so much maintenance, because when I spend most of time at work, I cannot maintain a two-storey house. I also actually like to live there on vacations only cause it is near the woods and the lake. I don't see any point in having a whole house to yourself if it is just surrounded by other houses on all sides
1
Well, because way too homogenous areas tend to intimidate people from other population groups.
1
"quality" First step is stop speaking about people as if they are commodities
1
If someone doesn't want something built on their property, they are justified, if that's just something close to their property, they have no right to tell other people what to build. How is that controversial?
1
@sownheard then the government should not only take, but also should just give property to those who actually need it. That is what USSR government did. My parents still live in an apartment which was just given to my grandparents for working in a factory and on a railway, and then later it was privatised in the 90s. Same with land, on which our summer house stands. In northwest Russia

@luke-be8yw you went full mask off

And at the same time they should be walkable and have public transport
