Or maybe the commercialisation of science and focus on "fast results", that is why one has to apply for grants every 3 years or so and long-term work can barely be done. And if you think science spends too much, you haven't looked at the military, I guess. Or subsidies and bail-outs of corporations. And, of course, all of these geniuses in the comments know everything better than professional researchers

@matterasmachine false dichotomy. You just postulated that "everything is wrong" and think the only alternative is "nothing is wrong"? Lol Maybe none of those extremes? Surely, everything in physics is wrong, but your computer somehow works? Also, surely, you think it is fundamental science that takes too much funding? Yeah, of course, try looking at the military or subsidies to fossil fuel industry. That is where your tax payer money is wasted like crazy

I think you meant dark energy? Dark matter is a very different thing. It absolutely is nothing like ether, it is a hypothetical matter which has a strong gravitational force. There is proof that something is there, gravitation is measured, its fundamental nature is just unknown. It is only dark energy which is comparable with ether. You cannot even distinguish between the two, and think you can judge why professional physicists accept these concepts? Dunning-Krüger much?
