That idea was never viable on a long time scale. "Only lunatics and economists can believe in infinite growth on a finite planet". I would say: only lunatics, some of them just happen to also be economists

For me living with anyone becomes detrimental to my mental health after some time. I am extremely introverted, I need to spend hours every day totally alone to feel ok.... My parents are more tolerable to me though, than any other people

Well, yeah, USA boomers kinda have that reputation of being so terribly selfish. Here in Russia boomers do everything for family and kids, even when kids are already adult: give money, buy apartments etc. I know cause my parents are boomers, they kinda have that ideology here that you should sacrifice literally everything for kids and not think about yourself at all, it is the opposite extreme from what stereotypical US boomer-Karens believe

The idea that GDP and economy in general should always grow endlessly, is suicidal for humankind. It will lead us to overshoot-collapse trajectory. The system should be changed in order not to rely on the "endless growth" strategy anymore

Billionaires exist only due to extremely ridiculous and unjust distribution of income within companies. If productivity has increased 2.5 fold since the end of ww2, but average salary had increased only 1.5 fold, where did the extra income go? The millionaire CEOs and owners turned into billionaires, that is where it went.

@unacuentadeyoutube13 without Finland nazis wouldn't be able to make a siege of Leningrad last so long

Better than being only 40 years old when everything collapses

@MrZzdannyzz not all old fridges were like that lol

Some people retire much later than they technically can. My parents, 67 and 70, still continue working. They even didn't want to stop working after the COVID happened, though mom really had no choice, but dad had, and he decided to go working. Idk how everywhere, here in Russia most pensions are very small, so people are afraid to retire earlier, cause living on pension ia hard, I have known some women who were working way into their 80s

There are still 19 years to go, and we want to live it good. But I prefer to use learning platforms which are mostly free

@tirionfordring5580 я просто не отвечаю на незнакомые номера. Я смотрю, что за номер в интернете, и потом либо перезваниваю, либо отправляю в черный список

The cost of ideology of "infinite economic growth at all cost", which actually makes only small minority rich and keeps most people at the border between poverty and homelessness
3
@romanplays1 dude, back then most population also lived in shacks, and in much worse conditions than nowadays. South Africa wasn't wealthy before 1994, only white minority (and not all of them even) was wealthy. The current poverty there is a leftover from apartheid, such extreme inequality which existed back then cannot be totally eradicated in only 3 decades, it is physically impossible
3
Putin could use chemical weapons as a false flag too blaming it on Ukraine. If you think Putin has higher standard than US politicians, you are wrong
3
Matthew Allen dude most of our cars and other things have irreplaceable foreign parts, which Russia itself doesn't produce. You are delusional
3
@BigBangAttack-mt6pz aren't compensated? My family received their 3 bedroom apartment and a land piece for summer house from Soviet government all because my granddad and grandma worked hard on the railways and in the factory respectively. Today people with their occupation can buy such accomodation only with 30-year mortgage, to pay a lot of money to the bank every month
3
Yup, in Russia too. Several relatives of mine have been doing that during last decade. But, at least they did not try to make me to join their MLMs

First time Spanish were in Tenochtitlan they indeed got killed. It was called La Noche Triste

Gold backed currency won't be good, China knows this and would never push for it. They'd rather use yuan for exchanges. And yes, US and EU economy is much more stable than Russian. I bet they don't have 70% dependence on fossil fuel export and their economy is much more diverse
2
You think Russia doesn't print money when trouble comes?
2
It was not. Even USSR didn't claim it was. They were promising to build communism by certain date many times, but they didn't claim they already had it
2
Who? Russian Federation didn't exist in the middle of 20th century
2
Like government here in Russia used the term "negative growth"
2
@ihl0700677525 Gulag was closed after Stalin's death. All later half of Soviet history it didn't exist

I personally believe every old person should decide themselves where they prefer to live. I have seen a video about Finland, some old people there prefer to go to the retirement home themselves. It depends on quality of those facilities. Also, most old people actually live alone or with a spouse in developed nations, only a very small percentage is institutionalised
1
Then maybe start building more houses and stop unsustainable population growth
1
Oh yeah numerology! And maybe we also should base our decisions on astrology? 😆😆😆 Also don't forget tarot cards!

As Russian I find many odd comments or responses here, which look suspiciously like kremlin-backed trolls' ones. If you find comments blaming the west and excusing Putin, or claiming that sanctions aren't scary for Russia, that can be made by trolls
1
Don't forget the insane rate of population growth in both countries
1
The idea that general intelligence can be created using current non-quantum computers and "inert" matter, which is incapable of maintaing its own homeostasis (unlike biological matter, which evolved in a way to be able to self-organise and maintain itself; or any analogous type of organisation, which is capable of the same thing) is flawed
1
My parents have 56 m^2 three bedroom apartment, and once we had both grandmas living with us, so 5 people. It was enough
1
Well, yeah, but corporations are worse than governments, and in the void left by the govwrnments, it is big corporations who will gain the most power and influence over the economy not the small local businesses
1
Mythology is just a fantasy
1
@IanSumallo "unlimited" wants and unlimited growth of consumption (and economy as a whole) is suicidal strategy for humankind in a long term. "Only lunatics and economists can believe in infinite growth on a finite planet". Actually, only lunatics, some economists just fit into that category
1
This is such a flawed logic though. Any person can end up in a vulnerable situation in life when they will have to rely on government of someone else's support. I would gladly agree to pay higher taxes today so that someone can get their healthcare, education etc., because then I will know that if I ever need that, I will have help myself. But apparently some people believe they are invincible, cannot ever get seriously sick, disabled etc.

@SG-ct2tb there was slavery, it is the pyramids that were NOT built by slaves, but by paid labour
1
Better because it has rare birbs and is separated from England by sea))) As someone learning both Welsh and Māori, I don't know which country to choose, honestly) oh, and Finnish too, cause Finland is great as well. But I probably won't go anywhere anyway
1
And if a person doesn't want to live like it? I am introverted and living alone is my dream, cannot get there right now, but I had periods of time when I was living alone it was wonderful, I want to live like that for the rest of my life. I love my parents a lot, and they are not chatty at all, but can't even live with them for a long periods without getting tired, not to mention other people
