@methylmike of course they chose SpaceX, they had to choose a private company, cause govt funding wasn't enough, and SpaceX is only private company which did at least anything of worth in space. They had no real choice. Maybe the real problem here is the privatisation of space in the first place? Have you ever thought about it? Maybe NASA shouldn't be constantly under-funded?
