I was 16 when I started university and moved to another city to dormitory. Now at 28 I am not sure I like this job anymore. So I can change it. That is the whole point - noone suddenly "wakes up at 35", we have plenty of time to change our opinions about anything. I am realised I didn't want either relationship or kids at around the same age, and I didn't just sit on that conclusion all these years, I thought about them many times seriously, so far I haven't changed my mind. Something tells me Peterson isn't afraid that I might change my mind when it is "too late" and be unhappy, he is afraid that I don't change my mind and thus don't make the decision which he views as "right one" in his own worldview
59
Do you even know what communism is? Unless someone wants to ban private property on the means of production, they are not communists. Right wing idiots constantly take social democrats and call them "communists". That is not a fair criticism, that is a strawman fallacy
32
So Bible just predicted washing machines? 😆
29
Lol here in Russia some people seriously think serfdom was good. Humans are dumbasses
18
@colelewis9940 dude, I didn't say other people should stop doing their own thing for me. Just stop telling me what to do with my own life. That doesn't affect them. And people who don't want kids are waay more common than 1 in millions. More like one in a hundred, or one in fifty. Also, I am a professional biologist, and your impression about how evolution works is kinda wrong. The traits which get preserved due to helping to reproduce, aren't necessarily making individuals happier or have better lives. Hyenas in evolution developed an anatomy that makes 1 in 10 females die in birth along with cubs. No, what is evolutionarily good is not necessarily good for the individual being
15
That is only because many women prefer to have kids after 30. I see no problem with that.
12
@colelewis9940 nope, it is significant. 1 in million maybe not. 1 in a hundred is somewhat significant. Again, if that amount of people isn't asking to change your own life but rather stop bothering them, like childfree people ask, or give basic human rights to them, like lgbt people ask, that shouldn't be a problem for you
12
@Anonymous-wp7lm so? If a person has a sad life that invalidates their opinion? How many people across history, do you think had a bad life? With all the wars, epidemics, slavery serfdom etc. which were going on? I had depression and it didn't make make me believe that all lives are bad, but it opened my eyes on HOW BAD life can potentially be. It is not us who stay blind to the best parts, it is you who stay blind to the worst parts
11
@JustDoIt12131 wanting to have never existed and wanting to die are different things. If you cannot distinguish those, your brain is pretty smooth
11
Also, I won't let bloggers tell what I want and what I don't, but also I won't let old men, like Peterson tell me that
11
Talk to some childfree women who are 30+ years old, as well. And listen to them as well. Use your own advice, come on
10
I understand respecting Peterson, but Shapiro? Really? His views are very hypocritical on many topics
7
Infinite growth is impossible, so society should change to stop promoting that idea
6
Sargon's fans are very salty
6
@mr.greengold8236 I am very sad that my parents were not anti-natalist. I wouldn't have to exist and deal with stupid aggressive beings called humans
6
@FilterExel in this reality of us destroying natural habitat on which we depend, we will go extinct if we continue to breed and consume as much as we do. When the population is in overshoot, it will inevitably result in population collapse, population will go down sooner or later, the question is whether it will happen in a controlled way or not. So, lowering the global birth rate to that of developed nations and assuring population goes down is the only thing which will save us from real collapse

Cyanobacteria exist for 2.5 billion years! And they can photosynthesize! And they made our current atmosphere! That is what I call success! Can't wait to see how humans will be doing in 2.5 billion years! Oh yeah,...
4
@AdamBlade17 Some bacteria can withstand radiation. How can you know they don't spread from planet to planet in pores of rocks of meteorites?
4
@pewtercamaro yeah they feel less of a woman because society too often views women only as baby-making machines, incubators. And pushes such a disgusting attitude on women.
4
The miracles which help Israel are mostly caused by American allies not by gawd lol
4
No pain receptors? You mean someone without nervous system at all? I bet those cannot experience any anxiety) actually pain is physical, even during only mental problems like depression, it feels like physical. Because it is. Same parts of the brain are active during those times as during physical pain. It almost sounds like you are arguing that there is some immaterial "soul" which experiences pain. That is not true. Pain always comes from physical processes, whether they do start at peripheral nervous system - by triggering pain receptors, or not - in all cases pain as experience exists because of very physical processes in the brain

So he forced me into endless existence for his own egotistical narcissistic feelings??? Can he at least give me an opportunity to end my existence after death, at least? I don't want heaven or anything, I don't want to exist forever in any way, shape or form
4
Sargon is a disgusting piece of shit. That opinion of his proved this to me
4
@shannonlouden3428 reproduction is not a gender role, but a biological function, like digestion or breathing
4
@Abe Gill Maybe you can talk to people in polite manner? No? Ok, then I won't too. Also, no, our species cannot possibly survive for billions of years. It simply won't be the same species even if it survives. That is a nature of complex life forms that they change so fast in evolutionary terms. Our fish ancestor also did not die out without progeny, yet we are not swimming in the ocean. Also, if you think we are doing "great", you need a reality check. Solar panels do not photosynthesize. Learn what photosynthesis is before talking.
3
@Abe Gill Hahahahaha terraforming planets is way off. It is not as easy as PR-focused capitalists like Elon Musk like it to imagine.
3
Lol, in some 10 generations most of your descendants may not have a single nucleotide from you, cause of how crossingover happens. And sooner or later our species will be gone, thus in perspective everyone is genetic dead end, it will happen one way or another, now or later.
3
People like him underestimate the age at which women's fertility significantly declines. Also, they don't care about women, they only care about women serving the "purpose" that those men want for us. The way they talk about women makes it absolutely clear. They don't view us as persons
3
@doofy3111 even non-asexuals can be volcel
3
You will have a hard time finding a social mammal species where one member of a social group killing another member of the same social group is more than a really rare case. Also, "bloodshed" you refer to was usually a war - conflict between social groups, not conflict of individuals within the same social group. Totally different thing actually. Both from perspective of evolution of social species and from perspective of the Bible. In the Old testament the same God which creates rules "do not murder" and "do not steal" allows his "chosen people" to genocide whole ethnic grouls in order to steal their land.
3
Here in Russia they do enforce it, when it has political meaning...
3
To have all the necessary elements, vitamins, essential amino acids and fatty acids without animals food you need to substitute it with sometimes very rare and specific plant ingredients, which are not always available, and sometimes more expensive. Do not use people in third world as an example! Many of them eat only poor diet, which lacks certain vitamins and elements, and while they survive, they still have problems with health
3
Gender roles were also somewhat different in different societies historically. And no, giving birth does not count, it is a biological function, not a gender role
3
@jc1daddy2 everything. He owes us everything. He decided we have to exist. The person who makes the decision should take the responsibility. Also, by your view god is literally a tyrant, created arbitrary repressive rules and someone who doesn't follow them is tortured forever. Your logic is "he did it just cause he can". This is literally a fascistic "might is right" idea
3
@joeposteraros Different societies had different gender roles
3
Why noone says to people who marry at 20 and have kids that they don't yeat know anything and are too young to make such a decision? At least I have never heard that. When I at 28 say I don't want kids and probably never will, some people call me "infantile", but many people who have kids at 20 get only encouragement and applause. This double standard reveals that it is not really about age, maturity, or person's happiness, it is about society coercing people to make "socially acceptable" choices by applauding those and insulting people, who make opposite choices
2
Hahahaha as a Russian I find it so bizarre that anyone would go for treatment here. Our healthcare system is getting worse every year, quality is terrible, mostly because equipment is old, number of hospital has fallen lower than it was a century ago, doctors are being paid miserable salaries. Unless he is going to a private facility, he is going to be disappointed. Want cocroaches in a hospital? Please.

I think any story can have a value. But: religious people seem to think that their particular religious tradition has values, which cannot be matched or substituted with other systems, for example, other religious traditions, philosophy etc. And that is where they are wrong
2
As an antinatalist I think if god existed he would be the worst sadist. He forced us into existence, and doesn't even give us a choice to not exist anymore. You have to go through some version of afterlife FOREVER. Be it heaven, hell, reincarnations, different other types of afterlife... Endless existence is the worst idea ever! If I didn't know so much about science which shows that our "souls" are actually a product of brain function; I would be always terrified by the idea that afterlife may be true...
2
@michaelevans4110 "perfect" is just a subjective assesment. Something can be objectively round, red, big, small etc... Something cannot be objectively perfect (or objectively good, bad, imperfect etc.) That is a subjective by definition. So by whose criteria god is perfect? His own? Thanks for proving our point that he is a narcissist. By my criteria god who forces his creation into endless existence and doesn't give a chance to end existence instead of enduring some form of afterlife forever, cannot be perfect
2
Which troops,? They all are stuck in Ukraine

Also why should I care about bunch of DNA molecules? Rather than about sentient beings, including myself? It won't be good to me if I have kids, it won't be good to kids, considering the situation where I live, it won't be good to non-human animals if humanity increases its numbers further but it will be good to some genes that may increase their frequency in population by 0.0000001%? So, why should I care?
2
@AlMondO93 I don't care about same genetic variants surviving after I die, rather than different generic variants. I am not arrogant, I don't think my variants are better than others universally. I am also a professional biologist, working as a researcher. And yeah it seems explaining why "genetic arguement" doesn't make sense scientifically to you would be like "explaining card trick to a dog"
2
@AlMondO93 also what charade? Breathing is charade? Lol. Being a parents has little to do with genetics in modern society. Adoptive parents are also parents and experience parenthood in full, while people who left their biological kids when those were babies, aren't real parents
2
@vulkanofnocturne I don't know, where I live absolute majority of families have both parents working full time.
2
There is a biological definition of success - how good organisms are at reproducing and surviving and spreading. And anything else, any trait including intelligence, is not a metric of success in itself, but just a trait which can help or hinder organisms at being successful. And yet, humans are rather successful by biological definition right now. BUT - a huge BUT - there are plenty of species which will always be more successful. Almost any microorganism by this definition will always be more successful than almost any macroorganism.
2
@godbearxd The measure of success is not making every single one of your offspring survive. But to have your genes spread as much as possible, and it is impossible to outrun many bacterial species in that. They even spread their genes through horizontal gene transfer
2
too bad! Yosemite sounds nicer) lol
2
21:29 - food chains in ecosystems are not dominance hierarchies within social groups. Those are two absolutely different things!
2
Many taxonomic groups considered different species by convention in zoology or botany, can interbreed. Like many interspecies hybrids of different species of macaws are rather common (cause they are pretty, so people breed them), some hybrids are very common in nature as well
