  2. Future will never be bright. It can have amazing new discoveries and inventions, but it also for sure will have new problems. It depends on what aspects of future you focus. I see a falacy in the beginning of this video: when he talks about what he imagined as kid, and what he sees now, he focuses on different aspects. Really, we now have pretty amazing things which were impossible only 30 years ago, but we also have more problems. Same one can expect from the future

  3. 01:00 - why would he worry about these things? Most of tragic consequences of that will be after a half of century or more. I dont worry about what will happen after my death. I will no longer exist at that time. Of course, I am interested in the future out of curiousity, but I dont worry,that simply wouldnt change anything, just make me more nervous

  9. many things in the human nature, including many those which exist ina ny human being and which we cannot fight. some of them are not seen as bad by others, but for me those features in people including myself are shocking, they disappoint me.  what is the wrong and the right end? I have met many good people, but even in them I have seen some prejustice or wishful thinking or irrationality or agression etc. I have been interested in different cultures through all the world and different epochs, but everywhere was and is the same. main human features are the same in all humans. we are all alike. it even makes me bored sometimes - how much people are alike to each other,  how even their fantasies are all alike

  13. I believe that there is legitimate concern about gap between poor and rich and lack of social mobility, in USA, and otger countries as well. However, it is true that with enough effort a person always can find a way to improve situation at least somehow. But don't have kids, though, they literally suck out money and time, or at least stop at one child. Of course poor families who choose to have 3+ kids will always stay poor, and their kids will be poor as fuck at least first part of their lives

The situation on Earth considering all ecological problems is very severe, and, unlike unmanned missions, manned missions to Mars would be very risky and costly and developing new technologies to make it less risky is also expensive. Plus no Mars colony in this century will be able to support more people than an average Antarctic science station, and any Mars colony will probably also serve only as science station. After all Antarctic was discovered 200 years ago and it is much closer and has better conditions, but still not colonised, so why do you think that plans of colonising Mars quickly will work any better? Exploring for science - that is ok, for sure, but for that unmanned missions are enough for now

  24. You know, it is possible to not create AI which can become conscious in any way. Make laws which will prevent such kind of AI from happening. Put anyone who tries to create conscious AI to jail. Very easy. And useful. Because AI helps to solve problems well when it is non-conscious. If it became self-aware, it would have its own aims and purposes and that could interfere with our purposes. That would cause only problems, there would be no benefit in that

  33. 1. There was no "new world" on Earth. People came to already inhabited place and killed locals, then settled. Not to say that any location settled on Earth so far had all the things we need: water, air, good climate etc. Antarctic is traveled to for almost 2 centuries, and except small scientific stations and whaling villages there was never any settlement there. No big cities, no self-sustaining settlement. 2. The biggest threat to human survival is our aggressive and destructive tendecies. We must neutralise that threat before we go to other planets, otherwise it can make situation even worse. 3. With said tendecies it is likely that even on (still) comfortable for human life Earth humanity will not survive for longer than several centuries. For how long can small colony on other non-terraformed unhospitable planet survive without any possibility of support missions from Earth? And, yeah, without terraforming large-scale settlement is impossible. 4. So far legacy of this species and civilisation is enormous destruction. Why would you want to ensure survival of something like that? Simply because "it is ours"? Sometimes it is good to remember that the fact that you belong to some group doesnt make that group automatically good or worthy

  34. Duh... you really think the concentration of CO2 needs to be in whole percents to cause trouble? If CO2 was several percents of atmosphere, we would be second Venus, dude! Now CO2 is ~400 ppm - parts per million. And it is a lot. During last 800k years it never raised higher than 300 ppm before 20th century - before extensive usage of fossil fuels. Dont think it is a coincidence..

  37. During last 800k years CO2 was never higher than 300 ppm as I said. Civilisations were ok with relatively high temperatures, not as high as it can get during modern climate change. Problem is not even temperature rise itself, but disruption of climate cycles, which existed on Earth for many millenia. Such unusually rapid change of climate will not allow living creatures to adapt, this will cause extinctions and disruption of ecosystems

I am a biologist, and in my opinion probability that convergent evolution on different planets can result in so similar life forms, is miserable. I think it is just general tendency of human fantasy - in all fairytales and myths there are plenty of anthropomorphic creatures like fairies, mermaids, angels etc. Most gods in most religions are anthropomorphic. Most aliens are depicted as anthropomorphic in science fiction. Really. Human fantasy is so limited. Real nature is much more diverse than our narrow minded brains can imagine

And stress causes disease. Even if current day poorest person is 10 times richer than poorest person in the past, inequality itself still hurts all people
