There are four fundamental freedoms from fear, of speech, of worship, from want. Which ones are you denied? Or is it the freedom to not wear a mask, and cough and splutter over whomever you like; the freedom to infringe other people's freedom by infecting them with a potentially fatal disease; At the parliamentary level, Steve Baker supports the repeal of the Human Rights Act , and the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill , so the freedom to infringe other people's freedom by curtailing their right to protest or to vote or to apply for judicial reviews.

@angusmcangus7914 Could you tell me what page you found this quote from 1984 ? Since I've read it a few times and have no recollection of this quote. It also seems to me that Orwell would not have liked GB News, and would rather have seem them as a ''dominant form of nationalism --- old-fashioned British jingoism.'' Or swivel-eyed nut jobs in modern parlance.

That's because all countries were all the same in 1919/20, weren't they? Lenin's post revolutionary Russia, Wilson's USA, Scheidemann in the newly formed German Republic, Lloyd-George in GB all conspired did they? Spanish flu killed almost 20 million, or about 1% of the word's population. Yes, there was a concealment of the pandemic then, but nowadays there is a whole mass of data, and research than there was 100 years ago. Unfortunately there are those that see this as a political rather than a public health issue and so follow dubious sources of misinformation. There are as many similarities as differences to the Spanish flu, but it's intellectually lazy and lacking empirical evidence to see it as SF therefore C-19 .

Steve Baker speaks for all of us does he? He is a man of decency, is he? We need more MPs like him, do we? The same Steve Baker that promised to fund the NHS in event of Brexit, and yet * consistently voted against raising welfare benefits at least in line with prices; * voted for reducing housing benefit for social tenants deemed to have excess bedrooms (the "bedroom tax"); * always voted against spending public money to create guaranteed jobs for young people who have spent a long time unemployed; * consistently voted for a reduction in spending on welfare benefits; * consistently voted for making local councils responsible for helping those in financial need afford their council tax and reducing the amount spent on such support; * consistently voted against paying higher benefits over longer periods for those unable to work due to illness or disability. Not a man to trust your grandmother with. But at least you can appreciate his consistency.

@Amanda Hughes The party was not on Tuesday night (15th Dec), it was on Saturday night (18th Dec). London moved into tier 3 on Wednesday 16th December. What is more, it was the Daily Mirror that broke the story. The checked the sources. It was aids close to Johnson that sat on the story. When he is at his weakest: dish the dirt. TIER 3 from 16th December meant: No mixing of households indoors, or most outdoor places, apart from support bubbles. Maximum of six in some outdoor spaces (eg parks, sports courts, public gardens)

@Amanda Hughes Sure, no skin off your nose, but what about the wool pulled over your eyes? 'It's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.'' - Mark Twain. The first rule of propaganda is target those gullible enough to believe anything they read or hear. The second is that an attractive lie is better than an ugly truth,, and third even if people have been brainwashed, they are willing to accept it anyway.
