I understand your concern about the loss of life and the consequences of war, and it's true that the situation in Ukraine is deeply tragic. However, we must consider the Budapest Memorandum, where Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons in exchange for security assurances from Russia, the U.S., and the U.K., safeguarding Ukraine's independence and sovereignty. Russia violated this agreement through its annexation of Crimea and invasion of Ukraine. While the U.S. and U.K. condemned Russia's actions, the U.S. is now seen as reneging on the Memorandum and playing into Putin's hands, leading to the belief that Ukraine should not have trusted the U.S. and U.K., especially under Johnson’s leadership.

@src97 Which international agreement enshrined in law was that one? You can certainly point to verbal and written agreements from the post-communist era - and these can be found on the website, "What Gorbachev Heard", but from an international law viewpoint, can you point to a specific agreement? When you have, then compare the legality with the Budapest Memorandum.

@ There is no evidence to suggest that President Zelenskyy has requested American or British soldiers on the ground in Ukraine; his primary appeal has been for military aid and equipment rather than foreign troops.

Too many of you Deformers love to take words out of context: "… we will go further to develop a “coalition of the willing” to defend a deal in Ukraine… And to guarantee the peace. Not every nation will feel able to contribute. But that can’t mean we sit back. Instead, those willing will intensify planning now – with real urgency. The UK is prepared to back this… With boots on the ground, and planes in the air … Together with others. Europe must do the heavy lifting… But to support peace on our continent. And to succeed, this effort must have strong US backing."
