  1. Ms Long-Bailey could've taken her definition of socialism from Edmund Burke. Burke did see society as a contract like Rousseau for the living and those yet to be born. Yet this idea of a civilised society is one that conservatives uphold. But would this be socialism to Roger Scruton? Would this brand of socialism be worthy of fighting at the barricades for? Her 'socialism' is not what socialism really is and again confusicates the issue. Socialism is the system of society based upon the common ownership and democratic control of the means and instruments for producing and distributing wealth by and in the interest of the community. It is a stateless, classless, moneyless society in which production is for use rather than profit. Sure Ms Long-Bailey wants her party to run capitalism better than the Tories and make it kinder and based on social justice, but these reforms will not bring about socialism!
