It’s interesting how different groups with different causes are treated, but it's also important to separate those marching for humanitarian reasons from those supporting specific political factions. Do you think the way police respond to protests is based more on the nature of the protest itself or the general behaviour of the people attending ?

On your last point, there are obvious historical differences, but some of the rhetoric today has unsettling parallels – especially in the way dehumanising language is used, how threats of and actual violence are justified, and the obsession with an extreme form of nationalism (often English, so not even British!). The idea of a “pure” culture under attack, threats to national identity, and even rhetoric around “blood” all echo some of the themes from that era. While the contexts aren’t identical, the warning signs are worth paying attention to.
