This is a very interest outcome! If you choose to do something like this again, it would be very interesting if spray coatings such as Scotch Guard, or Scotch Guard UV protection spray impacts the long-term durability. Maybe if you can do something like bbq grill covers, with different brands such as Weber Charbroil, Amazon Basics, Blackstone (which was just recently bought by Weber), WalMart brand, HDX, and whatever Lowe's brands. This could be a part 1 (as-is) and part 2 (with various spray protections; either annual application or twice a year), and see how it goes. Typically the brand name covers are thicker, but they also often aren't water tight, hence I spray it with Scotch Guard UV protection spray. But I do wonder if it helps or not, since I don't have a control cover.
