  1. These budgets are absurd for what was created. I'm just speculating, but I suspect that many of the FX houses who charge hundreds of millions of dollars are partially owned by the studio, directors, and producers. So while these "movies" are unprofitable from an accounting basis, much of the money has been made the old school mob style... inflated production costs. Everyone has their hand in the production side that it doesn't matter if the movie makes money... plus, it just means less back end payments. Seriously, there's some great movies that were made on $50M-$60M... does a superhero movie really cost 5x-6x the cost to make?
