  1. How would the client know the drain plugs are loose? I highly doubt they actually crawled down there to check the drain plugs.

  2. The problems with such lists are that if the bill is too expensive, the repairs won't be made. For example, if you have to replace a CVT on an ten year old car... might as well total it vs paying for a new tranny. Similarly, if the car is more expensive, the more likely you'll get a repair done... if there's a Hyundai that's worth $3K, and repair is $2K... off to the scrap yard.

  3. The best way to avoid "scams" (or overcharging) is to spend some time looking up what the service or repairs encompass, and the estimated reasonable cost. Unless the repair is needed immediately (permanent damage, safety), you can get a written estimate and think about it or do some research (esp if it's an expensive fix). Plus, also get a written warranty for the work done, and repair... because if it doesn't fix it, you now have something to prove the work/repair wasn't done correctly.

The problem today is that Chinese tools are crap... you might be able to get away with Taiwan tools for a while... but buying made in USA, higher tolerances, higher quality, and lifetime warranty from a tool truck has some good benefits. However, you'll have to pay for it. If tolerances and quality are important, then it might be worth it.
