Denmark has a unique culture, which still has a lot of national pride, something the US prob hasn't had since WW2. The citizens work hard (during their 38hr work week), have a sense of downtime (most stores are still closed on Sundays or have shorten hours), the tax rate is insane (25% VAT, and various income taxes up the wazoo, even worse than California), and very restrictive borders (very difficult to get citizenship if non-citizen). However, they have free healthcare, free higher education, employment protections, and extremely low violent crime rates.

@Real_MisterSir On a personal income level, it's not as simple as converting DKK to USD to compare disposable income. I believe for purchase parity equivalent, you need to increase the USD by ~40% to equate the same purchasing power in DK. That $8 Big Mac in CA is prob $14 in DK.

@Real_MisterSir I do not want to debate supply chain, quality of life, min income, or underlying dining habits. My point is that with a comparable basket of goods in the US vs DK, it's going to cost about ~40% more in DK, so comparing discretionary income by dollar value is misleading.

@Real_MisterSir Based on direct knowledge, I know someone who got relocated from the US to CPH, and they got a salary adjustment of roughly 40% to live there to account for cost of living differences. It was based on some pre-determine basket of goods, so they would not lose any purchasing power.
