I plan to have enough to retire at 50yo, so anything older is just gravy. If the plan is to work till 70's, and you don't have a government job, good luck.

One other piece of advice... don't piss off your boss (and esp your boss' boss). Your direct manager is either your best ally at work, or your worst enemy. They are the first to make the cut list... and if they don't like you, guess what, you are first on that list... regardless how well your co-workers like you, or the quality of your work product. There's a reason why kissing up to your bosses has been around forever... because it's actually works. Yes, people may be mad at that... but life's not fair, and you have navigate that environment.

First piece of advice... stop posting on social media! No company wants to hire a person who posts on social media. Once they find out you are posting stuff on social media, you are radioactive.

@UnitedStates_I.R.I.E What is more valuable than your life? The sooner you can retire, or have the choice to retire, you are no longer beholden to anyone and can do what you want. You can work if you want to, or don't work if you don't have to. As you get older, time is much more valuable since you have so little of it left. Plus, the last years of one's life typically sucks full of health and mental issues (esp if they live past mid-70s).

The reality is that savings suck, and spending is fun. However, if one actually prioritizes savings, and actually makes a some sacrifices (heaven forbid), one can save and invest, and set them up for a successful retirement. You can't tell me that everyone can't cut back their spending 10% (eating out, vacation, buying coffee, buying clothes every month, Amazon, etc), learn to invest, or work a little harder (few more hours, or take on more responsibility to get a raise or promoted). Yeah, working sucks... but that's why they pay you.
