  1. Savings interest is taxable... so depending on your tax bracket, it could significantly impact your net returns. Example, if you live in CA, and pay marginal rates of 22% fed tax bracket, and 8% state, that's 30%. That 4.5% interest earned is net 3.15%. Long-term index funds might have higher returns, and even a long-term capital gain tax rates... but there's also sequence of return risk. Example, in Feb 2025, the market tanked about -20%.
