think about the time it was made

It's the type of movie that requires a lot of analysis and rewatches. I have watched it several times and can't deny that it's a great movie, but I still haven't found the proper reasons why it is so great

One reason people praise "Taxi Driver" is because of how it's directed Another reason is because of the subtle portrayal of a veteran feeling isolated, lonely, and alienated from the society while being haunted by the horrors of The Vietnam War, as well as the lack of respect towards the veterans from the society

it was scary for its time

***** I don't know. Maybe there are still some people nowadays who get creeped out by the concept of possession and exorcism? Because it's a bit overnatural yet strangely thinkable, and Regan in demon form is not really a pretty sight I have never thought the movie was scary, but I still think it's well-directed, and I like the concept, art direction, and the decision of using cold temperature inside to create atmosphere and give the actors something to react to (as well as being affected by)

***** The type of possession I have seen in other horror movies are often meant to be (or at least screams) supernatural, so it's easy to not react to it. Horror movies are often like that nowadays, or have elements that have been done before, so they instead put in jump scares. This however was based on religion and is handled in a slightly more realistic way, so maybe that's the reason? (I haven't seen "The Last Exorcism" yet, but I know this movie was handled realistically) On the other hand, I think they call it "scariest movie of all time" just because of its influence

+DreamyEyedLover Yes, back when it was released, movies like "Dirty Harry" and "A Clockwork Orange" were considered the most violent movies of all time, as well as "Bonnie and Clyde" that broke several taboos at the time. Just the shower scene in "Psycho" from 1960 was considered extremely scary and shocking, as well as controversial. It was almost entirely because of moralism

so it needs a remake then since it should NOT be untouchable? I actually think it does because I don't think the movie was deep and complex enough, or even intense. And after seeing "Whiplash", J.K. Simmons could definitely fill R. Lee Ermey's shoes

King Kong Gaming I only thought Vincent D'Onofrio and R. Lee Ermey were memorable, but I can still imagine other actors in their roles
1
King Kong Gaming Did you see J.K. Simmons in "Whiplash"? That was like a drill sergeant in a jazz school setting R. Lee Ermey was also the only redeeming quality of Full Metal Jacket in my opinion
1
King Kong Gaming My point is that the authority and power J.K. Simmons displays in his physical presence and line delivery is perfect for a sergeant role. There is a reason why some music schools are described as "military" and "Full Metal Jacket" has major flaws on its other aspects. A movie does not entirely consist of acting
1
King Kong Gaming Can you mention ANYTHING that doesn't have to do with the acting of the movie? Message, complexity, cinematography, screenplay, art direction, music? I guess not. And for the last time, the authority, energy, and line delivery J.K. Simmons displays are qualities that are suited for several types of roles; nobody said that they are specifically suited for a music instructor and cannot be done in any other types of roles
1
King Kong Gaming Oh forget it, this isn't going anywhere, and you're starting to become annoying

"Ben-Hur" from 1959 is a remake and is arguably the most acclaimed one. I also don't know how many remakes they have made of "Les Miserables"

they have top 10 underrated actors
