  1. Flop means that it failed at the box-office. It has nothing to do with the quality of the film itself

  2. Disney (as in the executives) did almost nothing on the marketing and practically wanted "Treasure Planet" to fail. They also released it at the same time of popular films like "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets", "Die Another Day", and "Santa Claus 2", and at a time where audiences figured out when it probably would be released on VHS/DVD.
