+Eyan McFarland "The Godfather" is way better

The Godfather is superior
20
yes, those performances always make me scratch my head and ask "What was he/she thinking?" or "Is that really the same person who appeared in [acclaimed movie]?"
10
Can you blame them? It's widely considered to be one of the best movies of all time
2
Major Mate "Can you blame them?" basically means "Are you really surprised?" I don't think it's getting boring, because I love the film
2
He received more acclaim and award nominations for "The Godfather" though
2
Yes, if there is a list for Al Pacino, Marlon Brando, and Jack Nicholson, there should be a list for Dustin Hoffman too
2
+Matthew Music no he wasn't. He turned down the movie because he was tired of the typecasting of him as a gangster (yet he ironically played a gangster in "Dick Tracy" the same year instead)
1
Well, Al Pacino personally admitted that he is a bit reliant on the director and doesn't have the skills to make his own movies
1
ciao wutang He always play the same character? There's a funny picture (or whatever you call it) of him on Google that says "They said I could be anything I wanted. So I did"
1
ciao wutang What about "A Nightmare on Elm Street", "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" (Leo stole the show, but Johnny was very good too), "Don Juan Demarco", "Finding Neverland", and the TV series "21 Jump Street" And I wouldn't day that Jack Sparrow is a weird guy
1
I like De Niro slightly better because of his subtlety and versatility, but "The Godfather" is one of my favorite movies (and one of the greatest I've seen) and is a movie where Pacino also display the subtlety I prefer
1
No, I think Michael Corleone
1
@mauriciorosado2229 Why? Because he's shouting everything and is as subtle as a neon sign?
1
@mauriciorosado2229 And the misconception about acting being all about character work and being unrecognizeable continues!
1
@mauriciorosado2229 Rebuttals are also opinions, so don't even try with the whole "This is my opinion, so you're not allowed to criticize it" excuse
1
@mauriciorosado2229 Grounding sublimity into a natural context and highlighting your own authenticity and uniqueness as an actor. Just putting up a "mask" is basically to say "No, I don't have faith in myself as an unique individual, or see myself as a complex person that can be put into multiple contexts, so I'm just going to let go off everything that makes me unique, and submit to a character portrayal that technically everyone can do"
1
@mauriciorosado2229 It's supposed to be a crime drama and yet he performs the role as if it was a spoof movie, and because the loud and shouty performance is just annoying. "Say hello to my little friend" may be iconic, but it's also incredibly cheesy
1
I'm not very sure about that. Al Pacino was a nobody until he was cast in "The Godfather", and he then had several other great performances like "Serpico", "The Godfather part II", and "Dog Day Afternoon". (All Oscar nominated and influential) Even Marlon Brando considered him to be one of the best actors in the world after working with him in "The Godfather"
1
josh thomas I always think "The Godfather" (or part II). Not just because Michael Corleone is the first role I saw with him and it's probably his most acclaimed role (being nominated for an Academy Award, BAFTA, and Golden Globe and appearing on the Premiere and Empire magazines), but also because every time I see a video that mentions "Scent of a Woman", people always comment "He should have won for 'The Godfather part II', not that shitty movie [Scent of a Woman]". Either that or people say "How the hell did he not win for 'The Godfather part II'?" This list is also about top performances, not most iconic roles
1
His last name is Italian (or Sicillian to be precise), and CI/CE is pronounced like SHI/CHI
1
It's not that uncommon that an actor's voice changes when he starts to become old
