But the movie is still centered a lot around Don Vito since most of the conflicts and events are connected to either the loyalty or disloyalty towards him, and it is the assassination attempt on Don Vito that motivates Michael to become a part of the family business Don Vito was also a bigger character in the novel, and is the title character, so it is possible that the Academy based their nomination on that

That is one of the most difficult and complex female characters I know; it is about mood swings, being haunted by your own dark past, living a idyllic dream life that destroys you when you discover the bitter truth about it, feeling that your rich and aristocratic life is falling apart, only feeling love from a man through your sexual attraction, and hiding a tender soul behind a beautiful face. I can go on forever to talk about Blanche DuBois, and it is really hard to show that soreness and mood swings, and the contrasts between her beautiful, aristocratic personality and her emotional and tender personality, but Vivien Leigh did it so well. It is one of the best performances I have ever seen

The situations in "The Deer Hunter" are clear because we know what disturbing and troubling effects the Vietnam war had on the veterans, both during the actual war, and afterwards. The actors blend in with the situations and make the acting look natural, and there give a subtle soreness that affects the audience, and that is what makes the performances so great

Her performance is meant to be over-the-top and unnatural to highlight those contrasts, and Blanche (the character) is actually acting to hide all the horrible things in her mind and make the world look perfect and carefree, so Vivien Leigh needed to make it look unnatural at the same time of making it look natural
