  1. He is amazing and always stunning, but you cannot deny that he is quite theatrical; you don't hear many people in real life talk like his characters do. Come to think of it, it's actually a good thing since reality and realism don't always look good

  2. Culprit LA Still, even in plays and movies that are set in a place a long time ago, the actors still bring some naturalism in their acting. Even with Shakespeare they have tried to do that nowadays. Also, the other actors in "Gangs of New York" and "There Will Be Blood" were more close to the acting style of most film actors nowadays With that being said, Daniel Day-Lewis gave an amazing performance in both of these movies and he's probably my second favorite actor (Marlon Brando being first), but his acting style is still quite theatrical for the general moviegoer. He was ranked quite low on this list though, so it shouldn't be taken in such a negative way

I see what you mean, but my experience from Daniel Day-Lewis is still that his performances are more theatrical and larger-than-life than most other film actors, but it's still done in an amazing way. I also think it's possible to portray Bill Cutting and Daniel Plainview in a more "naturalistic" way, but since we now associate Daniel Day-Lewis with those roles, it's harder to imagine a different approach. I look up to Daniel Day-Lewis and have loved every performance from him, but he clearly has a different acting style than Robert de Niro for example, who relies more on making the situations clear and relatable instead of him making the scene. Jim Carrey is really underrated. He has had amazing dramatic performances in "Doing Time On Maple Drive", "The Truman Show", "Man on the Moon", "The Majestic", and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", and he shows soreness, inner conflict, warmth, and likability just in his eyes and facial expressions. However, most people only associate him with those gross-out and immature comedy films, and I hate that

  5. +Winston S. You make some interesting points, but I disagree with you when it comes to the "I only see the character" thing. Sure, I love character work and the illusion of only seeing the character. However, on an acting school or a theatre or movie production, no teacher or director would yell at you or call you bad for only seeing the person instead of the character. Acting is about storytelling, physical action, and moving the audience. I would rather see an actor being "himself" but moving me than seeing an actor being unrecognizable and "disappeared" into the character but delivering an internal and lifeless performance
