Karen Fahel well, lookie here, another one who criticizes method acting and uses that "why don't you just try acting?" myth to try to make a point. I will repeat what I have said to those who have done the same thing: 1. Laurence Olivier was commenting on Dustin Hoffman's life style, because the latter had been staying up for three days drinking at various pubs because he was depressed after a getting divorce or something; it had nothing to do with the two actors' different acting styles 2. Method Acting is not about staying in character the whole time and living like the character, it's about emotional and sense memory and substituting the given circumstances with your own personal memories and experiences.

Agreed, I saw him at #10 and was like "What?"

Well, I thought his performances in "The Truman Show", "Man on the Moon", and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" were all very different, and I often think it's hard to believe that it's the same guy who starred in "Ace Ventura" and "The Mask". Even his performance in "The Cable Guy" was quite different than those two performances, as well as "The Majestic" and "Doing Time on Maple Drive"

Jim Carrey is a great actor; just watch "The Truman Show", "Man on the Moon", and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and you will see what I mean

I agree with the actors you mentioned, but when it comes to Jim Carrey, I personally did not see much similarities between his performances in "Doing Time On Maple Drive", "Man on the Moon", "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", and "The Cable Guy" (the latter in which he only needed to change his mannerism to make me not recognize him). Those performances are also in general not much like "Ace Ventura", "The Mask", "Dumb and Dumber", or "Liar Liar". The same goes for "The Truman Show" and "The Majestic". You may disagree if you want, but that's my experience with him

There are virtually no similarities between his characters in "The Truman Show", "Man on the Moon", and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind". Even his performance in "The Cable Guy" is different than his other performances

Jim Carrey is great at dramas too: - Doing Time on Maple Drive - The Truman Show - Man on the Moon - The Majestic - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Michael Colby fair enough
1
Michael Colby I completely agree with everything you say here

I hate when people mention that myth, because it's mostly done as an attempt at criticizing method acting. However, you actually know the whole story, and I wish more people did, so I respect that
