There are so many biographical movies about musicians that are better, but haven't even been nominated for Best Picture. Plus that Bohemian Rhapsody is very average; the pacing is rushed, the structure is too formulaic, the drama is forced and contrived, the editing is a mess, and the character portrayals are completely uninteresting

How is Brokeback Mountain Oscar-baity? Ang Lee wasn't that established yet, and neither was Heath Ledger or Jake Gyllenhaal, Western movies and romantic movies aren't very common to win Oscars in modern times, the film wasn't that stylized, and movies about a gay couple seem more like the type of movies the Oscars would ignore in the early 2000's

It seems like you're only looking at what a movie contains rather than their quality and how they're handled. It would be like me saying that a shack is an amazing place to live in simply because it gives me cover even though there are so many better ways to do that. Also, if I want to learn something or listen to someone preach, I'll go to the library or to church

In terms of direction, dialogue, historical accuracy, and aesthetics, the film is pretty formulaic and average, and I definitely don't think it would have worked out if this was about any band. I didn't think the editing was anything special either
