+Paul Hagger the award was posthumous, not the performance

***** Well, I thought Heath Ledger simply did an amazing job; to play someone who is completely psychotic and with zero empathy is easy to either make over the top or like you're holding back. I also thought he always stole the scenes and handled every movement and actions so well, as well as his lines; not one of them sounded dull. I definitely don't praise him just because he died, and I don't consider The Dark Knight to be the best movie of all time

Mark Propheter Only his Oscar was posthumous, not his performance

It means that the movie was released after the actor had died

Don't compare "The Room" and "Rebel Without A Cause", please!

HannibalHobbes He was alive when the film was released, but not when he won the Oscar

he died one year after the film was released

The movie was released in 1981, and he died in 1982. He was also alive when he received his Oscar, but Jane Fonda accepted it for him because he was not in shape at all

Paul Hagger Ok, the movie was released posthumously, but the point still stands

***** Well, to be honest, his acting style started to look dated when the earliest method actors debuted. Marlon Brando even said "Clark Gable was always Clark Gable", and also (with reference to Rhett Butler's closing line) "When an actor takes a little too long as he walks to the door, you know he's gonna stop and turn around soon and say: [closing line]"

***** I've seen it, and his performance isn't that vastly different from "It Happened One Night" and "Gone With The Wind"; he still has that charm and charisma and authority he was renowned for, and it's still very theatrical compared to the later generations, as well as Spencer Tracy's performances Great performance, but it's still quite undeniable that he was being himself. That's what made movie stars at that time so beloved; they had certain trademarks and personalities that they brought to every movie When it comes to being transformative and unrecognizeable, Heath Ledger wins the round

***** James Dean's performance in those 3 movies he appeared in was iconic and legendary, as well as groundbreaking
