@andreaskavak2364 the US didn’t have a choice for who to bring back. They were only offered Griner and not Whelen. You can read this from recent 2022 articles on CNN, BBC etc. US can’t just choose who Russia hands over.

@basementdweller2830 Viktor Bout is not able to threaten the US anymore, his business is dried up since he was arrested ~10 years ago. Griner was foolish to visit Russia and provide a pretext for her arrest (cannabis oil) but she didn’t deserve ten years in harsh Russian prison

@tytemind7850 she didn’t break the law with drugs. Russia fabricated the charges and slapped a ridiculous sentence that no one else in Russia would ever receive, she was taken hostage, that simple. She was foolish for going to Russia though, it’s known for taking Westerners and Americans captive

@MIBxSpartan Griner didn’t break the law. Russia applies the law unevenly to suit the regime’s interests, they have a long history of arresting Westerners on trumped up charges to be used as hostages.

@birdatbattlefield it was a good deal, and I’m glad Biden did it. Consider, Viktor Bout was arrested because he sold weapons to terrorists among others. But now, since his arrest in Thailand, 2010, his business has been disbanded. He can no longer threaten anyone. I do blame Griner, Whelen, for setting foot in Russia however, they should’ve expected this.
