Indeed. According to BBC in a 2021 article, all candidates needed to be vetted by boards loyal to Beijing/CCP before they would be allowed to vote, and a large percentage of the legislature are not even elected by the public, but by Beijing friendly-industry groups. Hardly democratic. Voting in stacked elections is merely legitimizing the veneer used by the regime, and the CCP goons in Hong Kong have arrested people who casted blank votes in protest, or who organized calls to not vote, and boycott the elections.

@TheKkpop1 chill bro why you hate democracy so much

China is a dictatorship. Why are you celebrating a dictatorship taking away freedom from regular people like you? You seem personally invested, and tying your identity to the regime
2
@TheKkpop1 why you so angry?

@mike-sn2js I’m not sure where you’re getting your stats, but this is likely not true. NGO reports like the Democracy Index rate the US highly and China poorly. Hong Kong, rated separately, has slid in the past couple years from Democratic to being a Hybrid Regime, due to CCP crackdowns on freedoms

@mike-sn2js even if that’s true, that Chinese are satisfied with their dictatorship, who cares? Lots of Germans were satisfied with their government in WWII. They were still a cruel and horrible nation. US was right to invade and disrupt Germany in WWII, likewise US, the West, etc are right to invade and disrupt Russia and China today. They are bad and the US is democratic and good.

@tomchen513 Iraqi Kurdistan is relatively free and less corrupt than the China under the CCP. NGO reports like the Democracy Index suggest it

@vincentlui1456 you think the people of HK have no right to complain? Not sure where you live, but wouldn’t you be upset if a dictatorship like China took away your rights to vote freely, assemble freely, speak freely, etc?

@quasar7055 Iraq has improved a lot since the US invasion. Ask the Iraqi Kurds, ask the Marsh Arabs who live along the famed Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. US-backed government is much preferable to Saddam Hussein, or Iranian proxies

@coolcat6103 US, the West, UK, etc have killed many bad guys in the Middle East.
1
@TheKkpop1 Iraq is better today than it was under Saddam

@tomchen513 what about the genocide tribunal saying China is/was performing genocide in Xinjiang, aka East Turkestan?

@123-h5i5y ask the Iraqi Kurds and Marsh Arabs what they think about US invasion of Iraq. They love it, they literally name their children after George Bush and Barack Obama
