Also, when his men are screaming at him for orders, they aren’t asking him to give the order to fire. They know they’ve been outplayed by the pirates and are asking Beckett what his plan b is. But Beckett has no plan, he knows that he is doomed, his men don’t until they abandon ship

@thefatherinthecave943 I think there’s misunderstanding. His men aren’t sitting on the cannons waiting for Beckett to yell ‘fire’. They all know that they were screwed when they saw the Dutchman and the Pearl bear down on them. They looked to Beckett for a way out, he had none. There were no orders, no plan b other then to abandon ship.

New captain means new lease on life. The heathen gods gave the crew a new chance to be human and do their jobs of escorting souls. Becoming sea creatures was a punishment inflicted on Jones, for ignoring his duty to ferry souls.
