@weberman173 I think it’s more likely you are misunderstanding what you read, and are neglecting to consider the background for why the US did what it did. For example, don’t you think the US was right to worry about Soviet allies on its borders? Remember how bad a neighbor Cuba was to the US? Clearly the US had reason to support coups in socialist Latin nations. Secondly, the coups seemed to work well. The nations that thwarted US backed coups; Venezuela, Cuba, and to lesser extents, Bolivia Nicaragua, are all poorer and MORE CORRUPT than their pro US neighbors which underwent coups, such as Grenada, Panama, Argentina, and Chile. So it seems that the US has a good track record and its enemies do not. Something to consider don’t you think? US is better than regimes, and NGOs clearly list who the regimes and democracies are.

@T1k1tech overthrowing dictatorships is fine, the first Panamanian dictatorship deserved it by being a dictatorship. The rest is fine too as long as a good democracy isn’t being overthrown. Any nation that chose to be a Soviet ally chose to be a US enemy. Communism is irrelevant. They all got what they had coming. US partnered with local forces to overthrow Soviet-allied nations. That’s all fair in war.

They happened but drawing trends and conclusions from a few isolated incidents retold from a biased source is not objective proof. If you were in a highschool or college history class and you submitted a paper on PMCs using only this video as your source, you wouldn’t earn a good grade most likely. You need to learn to vet information from reliable and multiple sources. A video that makes charged and emotional statements on a political issue cannot be trusted. Read reliable sources only like the BBC or NPR, and get a consensus from multiple of them.

They were already planning another repeat of aggression in South Vietnam (ahem…Viet Cong anyone?) so it was very obvious to the US that South Vietnam was in danger of takeover by hostile nations. Also, US had a proven history of being the good guys and Soviets/Chinese as the bad guys, see how they stole the Eastern Bloc and put on the Berlin Blockade? And how they started all those wars and insurgencies in Asia? So really US is good and its enemies are bad, there’s no denying that unless you’re somehow ok with wars of aggression and corrupt tyranny.

@darkknightzombie2013 US had by then proven that unlike the communist bloc, the US-led bloc was committed to civil rights. It had successfully developed Western Europe, demanded free elections in Eastern Europe, which the Soviets rejected, successfully developed Japan, US allies, the British, were successfully and benevolently ruling Hong Kong better than the CCP ever could, etc. In later decades, US allies like South Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Malaysia were all more democratic and open than their communist foils like North Korea, communist Vietnam, Mainland China. It stands to reason that if South Vietnam survived the Vietnam War, it would’ve been like Taiwan, South Korea, or British-led HK. It would’ve been rich and democratic, instead of poor and corrupt. This is proof that the US/West are good guys and the Soviets/CCP were/are bad guys
