The degree to which Judges are partisan is often overstated. Overt corruption and partisanship in the courts has not been proven. US Judges are not corrupt, they do not allow their personal politics and beliefs influence their jobs. Also, what the video doesn’t make clear, is that the terms conservative and liberal have different meanings in the context of judges. Liberal and conservative refers to doctrine on interpreting the law. Liberal judges are inclined to interpret the law less literally, applying and viewing it in modern contexts. Conservative justices tend to view the law more literally, or as the original lawmakers intended it to apply in the context of when it was written, not necessarily in a modern context. Each doctrine has its place. Liberal interpretations make sense when old laws apply to modern innovations, such as search and seizure laws from hundreds of years ago and digital technology like smartphones from the past 10 years. Conservative interpretation makes sense when new developments like new technology threaten old established legal theories.
