@kadaltokek3953 they shouldn’t be allowed to pick independence, it’s a bad option and does nobody any favors except fulfill immature fantasies.
2
@beasley1232 by what logic is that? Who says that because Puerto Rico is a Territory it should decide to secede?
2
@David Alvarez false, you are wrong. Philippines was always going to become independent. Puerto Rico never was
2
@its-_-foxgrrr6041 having judges that are not afraid to reach unpopular verdicts, and defy public pressure, is a strength of our democracy not a weakness. This judge looked at the evidence and made a decision of his professional interpretation. That’s good.
2
@MrTom-kl7hy homes and rural areas are bad, they are antisocial and less sustainable than urban developments and dense housing.
2
@user-sj5ju4jb7trent control is not a a good idea. It is problematic especially long term
2
South Africa is not a failed state it ranks somewhat high on NGO reports. Economic problems, exacerbated by Covid-19, are hard in South Africa due to the legacy of Apartheid and colonialism. People are upset, they have no jobs, high poverty, some corruption, they have a right to be on edge.
2
@thiagodasilvasantos Why should US support dictatorships? Dictatorships aren’t good. Do you think US is wrong to oppress dictatorships?
2
@thiagodasilvasantos US has a right to overthrow Soviet allies near its borders. Look at the Cuban regime and the Cuban Missile Crisis as examples of how dangerous and derelict Soviet allies can be. If you didn’t want a coup, Brazil’s leaders shouldn’t have aligned themselves with the Soviets. Their fault.
2
@thiagodasilvasantos US was fighting the Cold War, not playing around with Brazil for fun. US wouldn’t have gotten involved if Soviets were not actively recruiting allies in Latin America. It was Brazil’s responsibility to be a good neighbor. Perhaps then the US would’ve seen no need to intervene.
2
@thiagodasilvasantos ask yourself this, what would happen if the US did nothing, how would Brazil be different?
2
@thiagodasilvasantos US is against dictatorships. South Korea and Taiwan were dictatorships that liberalized over years, under US guidance. Dictatorships like Saudi Arabia which can be turned into allies and eventually liberalized are not proof that the US supports dictatorships. In fact by waging wars against Baathist Iraq, for example, US is the only nation on Earth to hunt down and attack dictators.
2
Speeding is bad. Tickets are earned. However, if a ticket upends your life, prevents you from going to work, and forces you into desperate circumstances, then maybe that system is unfair.
2
Remember 9/11? You can’t just leave the terrorists will come back
2
Agatha Rogers what about 9/11
2
@bryanmiller8604 yes, the average American is perfectly able to squirrel away $300k over their lifetime. Ten times as much in fact.
2
@deezpleez3832 Andrew Yang is a Democrat
2
@davidscher1620 false, he is a Democrat.
2
@chiefrocka680 no they weren’t what?
2
sweat lord lol this is insane comparison. Americans are not like the Mujahideen. The US has a rule of law. The 2nd Amendment is pointless
2
Micah it’s true. If gun ownership really was a guard against tyranny, then why aren’t Japan, Canada, and all EU nations overrun with tyranny?
2
sweat lord Gun control is smart policy and saves lives
2
Most people in Boston don’t have an accent. The city is so gentrified it’s basically all new money
2
It is Republicans’ fault.
2
What would you call them then?
2
@Rowels_Darling you’re gonna have to explain how your comment was sarcastic, and what purpose sarcasm would serve here. Sarcasm does not advance your argument or counter mine in this instance. Sarcastically saying that eggs and sperm are like embryos does not advance your position.
2
America can help Israel and Ukraine very easily.
2
@jeuby3695 no reason for China to send a balloon with a weapon on board. What would it be? What would be the point?
2
@tf8187 yes, they did shoot it down after all, but the thing is, it’s important not to assume you know more than the experts. Also, they didn’t do exactly as you said. They waited a few days until it was off the coast of South Carolina. They didn’t shoot it as soon as they saw it/publicly acknowledged it over Montana.
2
Talking about issues and bringing them to light is not stoking tensions. Tensions are stoked by racist people doing racist things
2
Where is the proof?
2
@unserkatzenland8884 False dilemma. If South Vietnam survived it would’ve been a rich and strong nation like Taiwan, or South Korea, instead they live in a petty poor dictatorship that hurts people. Vietnam should never have been left
1
@unserkatzenland8884 Oh yeah? You want to educate me
1
@unserkatzenland8884 confirm what? The fact that US allies like South Korea and Taiwan richer and less corrupt than communist Vietnam? This is easily observable and proven by NGO reports like the Democracy Index. NGO reports prove that the US is morally superior to its enemies
1
@unserkatzenland8884 stalemate forever is what happened in Taiwan and South Korea. It’s what happened in Germany for decades until the Berlin Wall fell. So a stalemate forever is a good thing, despite your gloomy outlook
1
Democracy is dead
1
james bond it’s only one source and it doesn’t account for the millions of South Vietnamese who lived in the nation, who fled in fear of the invading North, or who served to defend their homes from communist aggression
1
@Chipbar clearly US had good intentions for South Korea as common sense history proves. Same would apply for South Vietnam. A transitionary period free of Soviet and Chinese influence was necessary.
1
mannyy_cx I think, we should just raise the immigration quotas, then vet them all like we do already, and then, there will be illegal immigrants working under the table. Competition therefore will be more fair.
1
LBJ Said 200 Years that's not the truth of the matter. Those countries do not openly support terrorism, the legitimate governments are fighting terrorism. Regardless, civilian caught in the crossfire are not enemies. They deserve sympathy.
1
Lisa speaks truth Clinton hasn't been convicted of a crime. Therefore she's not a criminal. If you have evidence of corruption, feel free to show it.
1
Donald L. That's not true
1
Donald L. My god you guys are idiots. The Constitution applies to everyone, not just citizens. If that were untrue, then tourists would not be protected by American laws. Secondly, there are provisions where the Constitution does not apply, one of them is when foreign troops invade and occupy the US. Thirdly, you are all racists. Come out and say you hate brown people. Otherwise you'd have no problems with them becoming naturalized.
1
Dank, Danker, yet Danker I think they are ultimately racist. Islamophobia and fear of Middle Easterners is bigoted and racist.
1
John Smith Mexico is in the middle of a great drug war. The cartels are getting guns legally in the US, smuggling them back into Mexico. US citizens then buy drugs shipped in from Mexico. Mexico is not to blame for the drug war any more than the US is. By accepting Mexican immigrants, US is helping out Mexico.
1
Miley L The South did fight on their own, it didn’t matter though. You are saying nonsense
1
Andrew Lusty just because countries are dangerous does not mean that refugees and civilians are. Iraq and Afghanistan may be dangerous countries, but they are still US allies with relatively friendly populations.
1
@backpackpepelon3867 being free from the US is nationalist and ignorant.
1
@bboyfada2295 I am perplexed why AOC and her allies in Congress did not include an option for Puerto Rico to remain a Territory? Do they think there’s something wrong with remaining a US territory indefinitely? Or are they hoping to end this issue once and for all?
1
@Slipthestrangewolf how does it feel being wrong?
