  1. Given the poor quality of ammunition in WWI the rear locking lugs might have been a real good idea if they had gotten into a major war at the dawn of smokeless powder.

  4. With volley fire you can make a serious pest of your battalion with harassment fire. With a 30foot circle of error any one shot should be counted on to miss but if you fire thousands of rounds you are bound to get a hit or two.
