When I was young boy in the US, black people were properly called negroes, this was acceptable to blacks and whites alike. During the late 60s this started to change, American people stopped using the word negro and started calling African Americans; Black Americans and this became the new normal. -- I believe this was primarily because of mass media influence on American minds, it was programing. -- The 37th president of the United States, serving from 1969 until his resignation in 1974, Richard Nixon said and I quote: "The American people don't believe anything until they see it on television."
