  1.  @nizhidao6778  Because a person can have multiple belief systems that serve different purposes. Similar to how a christian in the United States will identify with Left Liberalism or Conservatism as complements to their religion. Christianity is his religion dealing with the afterlife and individual morals. Confucianism complements christian ethics and deals with societal structure. The Japanese for example use Buddhism for the afterlife and Shinto for other stuff that I've forgotten. As westerners we effectively, to varying degrees practice two religions. Christianity on one hand and "Humanism, Liberalism, Enlightenment Modernism" which ever you'd like to call it, on the other. We have two masters, Jesus and Socrates. Jerusalem and Athens.
