@damn6 1945: E. Fermi, “The country which first develops a breeder reactor will have a great competitive advantage in atomic energy.”

@TeunisMarinus reminder: The total death toll of people killed by American troops in all major wars and conflicts since World War II is estimated to be over 12 million. This includes direct war violence in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen, and Pakistan, as well as casualties and fatalities in other conflicts.

@John-jw6xo So what are the Russian problems they cite?. So they argue that since Gazprom lost $7.1B in 2023 that the Russian economy will collapse, ignoring that this is a trivial number in a massive economy or that Gazprom paid over $8B in taxes to the Russian government. Gazprom has about $18B cash in the bank and sells natural gas on the domestic markets for a pittance. Raising gas prices slightly would return Gazprom to profitability and consumers would still pay some of the lowest prices in the world. Russia's fiscal position is vastly superior to any country in the West, having little debt and running small deficits.

As we can see, BRICS is currently holding its own version of the Olympic games in Russia—the largest ever thus far—in parallel, and as alternative to, the Paris summer games set to begin soon. Little by little, BRICS is creating an alternate fairer vision of the world where coercion, cancellation/deplatformization, and theft of sovereign funds is not a viable weapon. The pace is starting to pick up rapidly, and within a few years the Western model may be in dire straits as the entire world flocks to the positive vision that the Chinese and Russian-led order offers.

@bekeneel the West has dug its own grave. The EU's President highlighted the bloc's heavy reliance on China for lithium as it imports 97% of its required supply from the country

@damn6 So powerless. @John-jw6xo Alexey Miller held a meeting on the progress of the construction of an ethane-containing gas Processing Complex (KPEG) in the area of Ust-Luga. The event took place at the construction site of the enterprise. It is noted that the current readiness status of the gas processing complex, which is part of the KPEG (GPC KPEG), is 32.3%. The work on the engineering preparation of the sites of technological installations and other facilities, the construction of access roads has been fully completed. Orders have been placed for the main equipment, including the entire line of long-term production equipment. The first deliveries are scheduled for the third quarter of 2024. Currently, about 15 thousand people and more than 1.5 thousand pieces of equipment are involved in construction work. The launch of the enterprise, which will become the most powerful in terms of gas processing in Russia, will be of great importance for the socio-economic development of the country.

@John-jw6xo "Russia will run out of money sooner." 😂 IMF: GDP Growth Russia 3.2% | Germany 0.2% World Bank has noted since the war started that Russia passed both Germany and Japan in economic size Russia's budget deficit in 2023 was a mere 1.9% and forecasted to be only 1% in 2024. Meanwhile the US deficit was 6.3%, Germany 2.1%, UK 4.2 %, France 5.5%, Italy 7.4% Russia's National Wealth Fund (NWF) is growing again in 2024 after being reduced by $70B from its peak but again remember much of these are paper losses owing to valuations in Russia's private industries being lower. Russia's income tax rate of a flat 13% has been adjusted to a progressive tax rate that will range from 13% to 22%. Increasing the tax burden for the rich but still being very low compared to much of the world. The increased tax revenue ensures fiscal stability in case of a fall in commodity prices. So what are the Russian problems they cite?. So they argue that since Gazprom lost $7.1B in 2023 that the Russian economy will collapse, ignoring that this is a trivial number in a massive economy or that Gazprom paid over $8B in taxes to the Russian government. @TeunisMarinus scenario — Donald Trump is President and, after repeated refusals by the Mexican Government to stop the flow of fentanyl into the U.S., orders U.S. forces to cross the border and wipe out the drug cartels. Responding to this move, Russia moves openly to supply the Government of Mexico with cruise missiles, capable of striking American cities like Austin, San Antonio, Albuquerque and Phoenix. And let’s assume that Mexico launches those missiles and hits military bases in and around those cities. What do you think the American people would demand as a response? Leave Russia alone? I don’t think so.
