  1. Self-landing rocketships are VERY OLD TECH that was, and may STILL BE, really marginally economically beneficial ..., can you say Space Shuttle. AND, it took huge governmental subsidies to make it possible, AND EVEN NOW IT IS OF DUBIOUS VALUE EXCEPT FOR PR AND MARKETING RELEASES (e.g., your perception of what is important vs the opinions of the people actually doing research). How many mRNA and other issues would be advanced because the funding panels/committees were freed from incremental change guidelines and allowed to dedicate half their budget in areas that have no expectation of return WITHOUT PUNISHING RESEARCHERS FOR FAILURES TO DELIVER BREAKTHROUGHS ON A SCHEDULE DECIDED BY AN ACCOUNTANT?! The video is questioning the quality of change vs the quantity of merely valid research papers published.

  2. Listen carefully and CRITICALLY to the "'Haven't Done, Won't Do, Can't Do Research' Professional Science Guys and Gals" who go by the grand titles called 'Influencers" and "Communicators". They have no real experience in The Research Game so cannot speak as if they know from their own jobs. You and my acquaintances/relatives who HAVE done research on the professional level feed me the same issues you have voiced. Your graphs on Innovative Papers are the stakes through the hearts of Knee-Jerk Defenders of the Orthodoxy, especially in the "Influencers" and "Communicators" who have no real tie to the state of Research except through their wallets. The fact we are getting less bang for the buck, apparently, is/could be just as likely the setup for the next few breakthroughs we can't predict that will invigorate Science.

  3. How many scientists want to work on tech jobs? There are already a lot of PhDs in industry who work the production lines and/or are responsible for supporting production/processing. You are going to need government funding that Vulture Capitalists won't spend because, well, TODAY'S ACTUAL SITUATION PROVES IT. BUT, you are going to have to have some PROFESSIONAL DISCERNMENT to keep FoxSpews from being the chair of all the funding panels.
