Social media is entertainment in too many cases as opposed to scholarship/education. The most apparent in the US right now are the channels following the Trump Clown Car/pirate band where there are TREMENDOUS differences between content of channels hosted by bar-admitted lawyers with experience in the actual court systems being used, compared to the semi-partisan channels hosted by people not with such actual professional experience.

While social media is entertaining, it is the professional academia offerings on YouTube that I find the most valuable. I don't see social media taking the places of things like Graduate Level institutions and research organizations ..., whose work the better social media will take on board to fashion their product from. However, some people (the Great Unwashed) will prefer Bill Nye Science Guy/Time Team Baldrick as entertainment, but others (including academia) will prefer real academia like the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures for actual hard core research results. You take your choice of Lies We Tell to Children vs. Lies We Tell to Adults vs. Lies We Tell to People Who Can't Do Calculus vs. ... . I really pity the students who only have access to the library reading room, anymore, as compared to the essentially open access to the stacks I had, especially as an engineering student doing their multiple Shakespeare critical papers in Speech & Drama school senior level classes taken as liberal electives.
