I thought Roots was really pretty hokey, but also was raised and educated to know that SLAVERY WAS WRONG. I never doubted the EVIL that was American Slavery. In anecdotal form, I was in the part of our high school marching band who objected to having the Confederate Battle Flag put in the colour guard ..., especially when it was done just to win trophies in parades in the Lil Ole South. The high school was actually FIRMLY in the Union North, and people like myself had all sorts of Civil War artifacts in the family, like the tintype I still have of an ancestor who allegedly died in Andersonville prison camp. I secretly cheered when the Daughters of the Grand Army of the Republic got the school board to ban the flag, but a lot of people, including band members and their loud-mouthed 'Band-Aid' parents, were sore that they couldn't fly it. I also saw my first Klan Parade in that same city, as a child.
That being said, I ALSO was in a blue-collar family and blue-collar bosses of part-time jobs. THEY DESPISED ROOTS, mostly, from what I could sense, because it wasn't about White Men fighting the war, but was on commercial TV as a unavoidable reminder of why the war was legitimate and justified.

That's the 'narrative' the current Talking Head Class learned in Journalism 'School' as people who needed refresher courses in 'Murican History, World History, 'Talking Our of Both Sides of their Mouths' Rhetoric, and English 101 so they could become Professional Book Report Scribblers.
As a STEM grad, I took all those same courses ('cept English 101 and Composition cuz I actually learned that in High School) AND courses in Vector Calculus, Chemisty, Transport Theory, and Systems Design, where there actually WERE RIGHT AND WRONG ANSWERS, instead of the Journalist 'Participation' Awards.
Journalists are only as correct as their last retrodiction, and even then, just look at the FoxSPEWS morons for a 99 44/100th% FAIL rate on predicting the past.
Where are the Mike Roykos and Daniel Schorrs of time past, except in the margins the "Fair and Balanced" FoxSPEWS bullies and NPR weaklings consigned them to?

Well, then it's just a hand over from the Dumbest Party to the Dumbest People.
The "IT'S THE ECONOMY, STUPID!" Party just went completely 'Aspirational', with all the killer instinct of a white board eraser.
Dems screwed this election, completely. Old Man had to be thrown out, wrong candidate with no vetting, wrong campaign being gaslit by Trump at every turn AND FALLING FOR IT, loss of voters that was not foreseen and immediately jumped on, the list goes on and on. Do people actually get paid to be this clueless?!
As an Independent, am I the only person who can see this feckless show against a candidate that a mediocre candidate could have eviscerated on HIS ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE?!
I've voted Dem since 2004, but all the Dems can show me is ONLY THE FIRST 2 YEARS OF OBAMA as a true success. That is utterly FECKLESS performance!!

Not distrust, just ignoring.
The stories they deal with are very often covered better in the sharper edge, INFORMED media.
Mainstreamers don't lie, they just cover to a abysmal degree of non-detail so's they never threaten their advertisers and so's the viewers are never be challenged to actually think about the reality and maybe have to learn something new. Oh, and the key seems to be a pretty/handsome face, too.
On one hand, mainstream cheerleader mentality with colouring book journalism, on the other, professionals with actual insight. As was pointed out decades ago, 'journalists' and 'reporters' are now the product of privileged backgrounds and boutique degree-granting institutions, more worried about their BMW payments and overpriced mortgages.
NYT have shown too many shoddy, agenda-driven editors who don't seem to have any reason for their paper existing, the WaPost has inside stories but too much otherwise fluff and brain-dead 'opposing points of view columns/opeds'. I'll stick to sharp and focused sources like The Economist, Science, and online sources that I have vetted over a trial period.
