  1.  @acollierastro  The point of economics is The Rich always win, so the point of that show is the best the 99%ers can hope is pretending a brief emotional boost is the best they can expect from life. The show ALSO doesn't show any of the other effects of gift giving for the gift giver, the gift receiver knowing how happy they made the giver, the memories the good gifts spark, etc. Leave it to an Analytical to miss the value of all the non-primary emotions/hormones, and miss the emotions/hormones that the entire Holiday Season brings ..., and which Holiday Season would be reduced to just 'religious obligation' if the presents were removed and we regressed to Pure, Fundagelical Christianity in The West. That's why Economics is The Dismal Science. What is not an easy/facile measurement is just ignored.

  2. Gifts are a lot like prayer, for the Gifter/Prayer, not the Giftee or Prayee. But, there is the 2nd order effect, seeing the joy on the Gifter's/Prayer's face when you acknowledge it. The 3rd order is the memories later on from a gooder gift in the Gifter AND Giftee, not to mention people who inherit the gift. Money is just The Rich stealing Life Breath from Wage Slaves, but at least try to get some joy from it!!
