@gangsterHOTLINE The 16 came to Vietnam with a flaw. An allen screw in the bolt assembly was carbon steel. It rusted quickly in the humid country. The AR jammed . Continually. When they finally corrected that it became the AR16E1. I never carried one by preference. Fired them a fee times, but used an M2 Carbine for business.

1963 Sand Hill. Ft. Jackson, SC. First Lt. Lasane, CO. Co. B. Trained with M14s. Darned good rifle. My company probably broke the record for firing Expert. Great guys to serve with. Later, I went to Vietnam. Spent a couple of years there. The training we got under Lasane came in handy. We worked in small units. Had choices of weapons. I wound up with an M2 Carbine. Carried it the whole time. Tape together two banana magazines, and you could quickly fire 60 rounds. However, that wastes ammo. Single fire was better. Always have a target to shoot at. You can't mow down the jungle.

@interestedparty497 That being said, the military is often used to test weapons. Met a guy once at a firing range. He had a surplus M1 Garand. It was amazingly accurate. A little on the heavy side, but definitely a good Rifle. My father died in S.Korea when I was 15. A lifer, he had also been there on 52. He swore by the M1 Garand. I fired one a few times. Got my very on M1 Thumb. The romance was over. RIP Dad.
