  1. usually the two things i can tell by that a seemingly fluent german speaker's first language is not actually german is that they pronounce "ist" and "nicht" with a t in the end, while native speakers mostly drop the t and say "is" and "nich". and the other thing is, that instead of "etwas" or "irgendetwas" we usually just say "was" or "irgendwas". so if your spoken german sounds too much like written german, then there is something fishy about you... xD
