i (german) find it hard to accept the fact that in the US i have to pay the wages for people when i go to a pub or restaurant. the owners of the place must make a lot of money not having to pay proper salaries to their employees. food and drinks should be cheaper because they could afford it. the new thing i learned in this video is the fact that in some places people get minimum wage and in others they don't. so how do i know as a tourist/visitor when i have to make up for greedy employers or when i give a tip for the actual service i appreciate? i like the german way of tipping more than in other tipping cultures, because there is actually on option to not tip at all, especially as a way to let them know that you are unhappy with the service, although there is some social pressure to always tip at least something. but at the same time, if you forget to tip or don't because you are in a rush, you really don't feel bad about it. but it is such a relief when i am in korea or japan where tipping is not a thing at all. i love that. it is just easier. less to think about, less to be annoyed about.
