  6. It's a great idea to have compact apartments like this. You could add a camping stove and mini fridge, but you'd have to use disposable cups, cutlery / chopsticks, and plates.

  10. Re the squat toilet in apartment 3, buy a plastic western toilet to lay over it, they are inexpensive. Also, you could maybe have some kind of chamber pot for night time wees

  12. In the tatami room, you may be able to sleep in the wardrobe, I've done that in a few places in Japan.

  13. There is 1 apartment/room in Tokyo at ¥10,000pcm. It is tiny, dark, and has no toilet or bathroom.

  14. At ¥33,000 the tatami room is a bargain. I'd live there. You could set up a wash stand to have a flannel wash, and go to the cento a few days per week.
