The term socialism and socialist came around after WW2 to distance themselves from the term communism that had earned a bad reputation. It is nearly fundamentally the same as communism and most often a "socialist" society does turn into full blown communism because the people go hungry and turn to the government. Never once has socialism or communism worked throughout history infact it's the most deadly thing man has made.
