@Willbme4EVA WTF are you on dude? That would make for an interesting electrical system. They are not both live. Also, the "wholes" are not the same size on regulation outlets anymore and haven't been for about 30 years. The SMALLER hole on the LEFT is live and the LARGER hole on the RIGHT isn't.

Whole house is AWFUL, trust me. GFCI breakers on each circuit would at least allow you to trace a fault to a particular run, rather than possibly having to rewire a whole house if you have a mystery leak somewhere.

@Lam ALL dwellings since the mid 80s have been required to have grounding due to both high draw items and 200V appliances. The 2022 update only really concerns the outlets throughout the home that weren't previously expected to have to deal with those types of appliances. If only they would get rid of the insane whole-house GFCI and at least switch to a per-breaker GFCI, then life wouldn't be hell dealing with the whole house shutting off any time an overzealous fault is detected.

They did NOT make the outlets safer. As usual, they took a shortcut after the war and haven't upgraded since. This was PURELY to save money on metals that were in short supply. Whole-house GFCI is a NIGHTMARE since you can almost never trace faults. Essentially, if there is a fault ANYWHERE in your house, then you are completely without power until it's traced and fixed. So rather than a breaker tripping and simply checking that circuit, you get to check the wiring in your whole house. Electricians here love it since they can charge much more for simple tasks. High amp outlets are usually grounded as well as shown in the video.....just with that incredibly stupid grounding cable that must be screwed into place...seriously, FFS. This is what the host says "are super rare"...that's complete BS. These are EVERYWHERE in a typical house and a massive pain. Typical Japanese short-sightedness. Fun fact...if you even change an existing outlet or bulb fixture, and you aren't a licensed electrician, your house insurance is void...yayyyyy. Japan could be such a nice place, but it's due to institutionalised stupidity that nothing has changed and we are still only on 100V....oh yeah, and 50 or 60Hz depending on where you live. Grow up Japan.

@Willbme4EVA Doesn't extend life and can actually significantly shorten the life of electronics if they aren't rated for the lower voltage; it really depends on the appliance. High draw appliances will not work properly, but others that already have step-down electronics inside should be fine, as long as the frequency is compatible.
