@nateriver4951 No one had a constant feed of their friends living perfect, unattainable lives before social media. That didn't exist in any form and if you can give me an example of it I'll admit youre right. Yes people have always compared their lives to others but social media has amplified that and made it a hobby rather than something in the back of your mind. Not only that but it made the comparison more depressing in the sense that near everything people post to social media is the good parts of their lives. When youre comparing your life to others on social media you arent comparing lives at all. Youre comparing your life to these perfect lives that people put up as a front in order to look good. No one is posting to social media trying to look worse.

@nateriver4951 How about the fact that near everyone is posting only the best parts of their lives. People try to make themselves look attractive, active and like theyre living an awesome life one social media. In reality no ones life is as good as it looks on their instagram but youre scrolling through and seeing a bunch of lives that are way better than you could ever dream. You dont think that contributes to negative emotions? You dont see that exaggeration of other peoples lives unless youre on social media.

@jordan summers I'd say anyone that judges your decision to not be on social media, isnt someone whos opinion should ever matter to you.

@joere-uploader5766 wow its almost like not everything in the same category is as beneficial/harmful as everything else in that category, who wouldve thought.

@Darengo1997 maybe if you dont want the teacher to touch your phone dont blatantly disrespect the teacher in front of 30 people by using it in class. Any law that prohibits a teacher from temporarily confiscating things from students is fucking stupid. Kids using phones in class affects everyone in that class, not just the kid using the phone

@joere-uploader5766 btw, i know you just enjoy arguing with people in yt comments (so do i, its pretty fun) but from an outside perspective all of your replys are making you look like an unintelligent boomer

@sunset3250 i believe its more common in girls, because admitting your depressed gets you a lot of attention from guys who may be genuinely wanting to help you feel better but also might see it as a chance at someone who doesnt know better

Social media has definitely changed big time since the early days. It used to be more purely about just keeping in immediate contact with people but now there are algorithms calculating the chance of you interacting with any given post, selectively showing you things to make you spend more time on the app, its definitely taken a much more malicious turn

Or maybe its the fact that now people are more aware of the potential dangers and are trying to be good parents by not exposing their kids to those potential dangers at every possible opportunity
