@thequalityrkc299 its so ridiculous to me how the US government isn't subsidising education, can't even spare some of the billions going into military expenses to help develop the future of the society that they live in. Imagine how slow technology and ideas would advance if no one went to college. People don't get taught enough in high school to really make any meaningful impact on the world, the only way they do that is by being an extraordinary creative or by going into further education and the government of one of the most important countries in the world is too ignorant to realise and work on that

@thequalityrkc299 You realise "subsidizing" means funding right? So if the government is subsidizing education then that means theyre paying for it hence making it cheaper for people to use

@thequalityrkc299 O so thats why the subsidized university price in my country is only about 20k for a undergrad degree in tuition. Because them subsidizing it made it go up even though the unsubsidized price is more like 80k for an undergrad degree

My uni is less than 10% the yearly tuition fees of the one shown in the video, administrators are still making ridiculous sums of money, the vice chancellor for example is on $700k a year + a free house. All our lecturers have full time jobs and separate offices. They still care more about the international students so much so that they were campaigning to let people from china into the country during the peak of covid just because they didnt want to lose money (while ironically still having an over $9 million surplus after covid wore off). My uni still cares way too much about money yet our fees cost less than the rent we pay to live in detached houses a 5 minute walk from campus

@nickruiz2343 the average welder salary is less than 40k in america. Youd have to be incredibly skilled or lucky with connections to be on 100k a year

@Misaka-gt5yj Yeah, but my question is why is the system so broken. Like Ive already said the cost of college is heavily subsidized where i live. There is no cost shifting, the price basically increases with inflation. They continue to shove more money into the system, and it isnt increasing the cost. Also, no the US does not spend the most out of any nation on education, at least not in any reasonable metric. In terms of %GDP youre not even in the top 50 nations. But hey, keep lecturing people about economics when you don't even know how to properly analyse government spending.

@HackersSun In a large amount of jobs that require a uni degree you wont be getting fully trained on how to do your job. They expect that seeing as you have a degree (assuming you got a job in the field of your degree) that youll at least be able to figure out most of the knowledge required by yourself

@footferry1589 yeah my mate from america whos currently studying over here because even international fees at our universities are cheaper than the fees at american colleges said that the main thing you pay for with high level american colleges is the connections you get after graduating to find a job
