  1. As they should. Its not a democratic vote or a gun license. If hes carried out his sentence then let him compete. He may (or may not) be a despicable person, but i dont see why that should dictate whether he can play in a volleyball tournament.

  3. No they dont lmao. Some places offer money or other rewards for medalling, ranging from tens of thousands to (rarely) hundreds of thousands. A couple places might give you a 2 bedroom apartment or something like that. They are certainly not treated like royalty, and they certainly dont get to live for free just because they medalled in the olympics once.

  5.  @Urelasir  How is it an internet culture war when its live streamed to every tv in every nation on the planet? You realise that many countries ran ads during the opening ceremony? Thats not because the opening ceremony has space for ads, its because the government deemed it unfit for general viewing and needed to censor it.

  8. They'll then use the argument of "the olympics are for amateur athletes so we cant pay them," which is no different to being like "this 20 year old doesnt have any job experience, so we'll only hire him if works for free."
