andy morris yeah there's a submarine and a monitor preserved too, amongst others from other periods elsewhere, like the WW1 light cruiser HMS Caroline over in Ireland and the Japanese battleship Mikasa (basically a Formidable-class pre-Dreadnought underneath)

@Alucard-gt1zf I dunno, Prince Of Wales was there too and didn't, she WAS badly damaged though. Frankly I think in the Hood's case it was a lucky shot and it was her own ammo magazines being set off rather than the shells themselves

Agreed but it was just lack of funds after the war and a lack of desire to keep things that didn't have an immediate use anymore, sadly, hell the only thing keeping Nelson's legendary HMS Victory from meeting the same fate after her era came to an end was public support and outcry. At least in Warspite's case NO-ONE'S scrapping her now though haha after she basically 'escaped', oh you beautiful old warrior, I know you got soul 😊

@LordElpme actually yes I would, because my love of history and respect for historic icons isn't something that's determined by how full my belly is or how fat my wallet is. It's easy for YOU to talk about how broke we all were, thanks to all the American's quote "help", but I wonder if you'd be so quick or loud to say that to the faces of surviving members of her former crew

Oh absolutely and we were as ever after a major war, completely out of cash so scrapping everything that wasn't on the absolute cutting edge of technology to make a little money back seemed like the best move. Isn't anything new, the only thing to keep HMS Victory herself from the breaker's yard after the age of wood & sail came to an end was public outcry and support
