  1. frank laufkoetter air transportability is a nice thing to have the capability of but the Sheridan, and the Tetrarch and Locust of WW2 prove that compromises have to be made to make it practical

  2. frank laufkoetter well I've heard lots of veterans say it was a deathtrap against any enemy infantry with RPG's or against any enemy tank bigger and heavier armed & armoured than it i.e. just about all of them by the time it came into service, and it's primary weapon was definitely removed from service early and only used on two tank designs for a reason

  3. frank laufkoetter what success it DID have was down to the bravery and skill of it's crews as you can't just pick and choose the equipment you're given and have to just get the best you can out of it; one unit did famously disobey orders to transfer and just kept their old M47's until forced to do so, and I very much doubt they'd have done that if the compromises I mention were a good thing

  4. Jonny agreed, that does seem to be a good idea for how to go about it if you are going to go air-mobile and with AFV's, IFV's and light scout vehicles the issues involved with making a full-on tank air mobile are less of a problem anyway
