LPMBB1815 also 'effectively versatile' is simply not what the designers had in mind, it's an air superiority fighter, pure and simple and a damn good one, somewhere between an F15 and F22 in capability and meant to be used the same way- might not be stealth or very good at tankbusting but it'll outmanoeuvre and kill just about anything in the sky

Akm72 and a good thing too, the RAF used to HAVE F4 Phantoms, weren't they watching what happened to them in Vietnam?! whether you're planning on getting into dogfights or not having a powerful, reliable gun of some kind as a back-up to your missile and bomb loads is essential, and since it's already built-in and the aircraft designed deliberately around it anyway it's self-defeating madness not to use it. Would've thought it'd add to that ground attack capability too

Don't get me wrong the F35's a superb aircraft but we should've just converted some of our existing Typhoons for the new carriers that we do, after all also already have, rather than spending billions upon billions on planes we won't have in numbers for three years at least

  5. Spencer Herbison perhaps not the best AIRCRAFT specifically ever, that's a bit too generic a term, it's certainly one of the best jet fighters ever though and unquestionably the best to enter British service so far

Akm72 oh it's not just the pilots ribbing each other or bigging up their own planes at the expense of their rival's, that's only to be expected and happens all the time and is usually good-natured and all in the spirit of healthy competition. The stuff I have a problem with is those with gross national bias and a chip on their shoulder using it as evidence of national superiority, who despite which 9 out of 10 times have never been near let alone actually flown either of the aircraft in question, and while the trolls and keyboard warriors on here doing it is bad enough when a respected, highly-placed national TV network starts doing it, the sort of people that get listened to, THEN that really pisses me off

D'you mean the excersize when the RAF pilots deliberately let the Indians win as that was part OF the excersize, and the Indian press got hold of that '12-0 kill-ratio' figure, got completely the wrong end of the stick but wouldn't shut up about it, about their 'beating the cream of the RAF's ace pilots'? And when the RAF tried to correct their bullshit statements they were accused of being 'childish'? Is that the war-games you mean? In previous excersizes of the same sort the British had actually scored just as high, and needless to say in the '12-0' one's case also weren't able to use the Typhoon's full capabilities such as superior BVR weaponry or, y'know, any actual weapons at all

  14. eddie money the early Sidewinders worked pretty well in 1982, that was all WVR and on far less advanced aircraft with much less tried, tested and reliable technology
